چکیده
HE feasibility of surgical relief of hypertensioni associated with renal arterv stenosis has been clearly established.'-` In the -preoperative diagnosis of seconidary hyperten sioni of this type, funietioni studies anid arteriogoraphy have been the oinlv available procedures. However, 7renal arteriography and studies of separated renal functions after eystoscopic examination and bilateral ureteral catheterization are timne-consuming and expensive, they require hospitalization, and they are discomforting and also somewhat hazardous for the patient. It is not possible in our practice to uindertake such studies in all patients with hypertension whom we might consider potential surgical candidates. As for the 1use of urographic teClniies alone, thev have nlot proved satisfactory for screeniing hypertenisive patients for evidence of renal artery disease.6 The need tor a diagnostic procedure that would permnit the, accurate screening of large n-um-bers of hypertensive patieints caused uls to unldertake a critical appraisal of the isotope renograin prevTiously described by Taplin and assoeiates.7 Our criteria for the selection of patients for study lhave been previouslv (lescribed. ,

Comparison of aspirin renogram and captopril renogram in the diagnosis of renovascular hypertension
Renal artery stenosis (RAS) is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. Preliminary data indicate that aspirin renography with hippurate may be more sensitive for detection RAS. In this study 20 patients with known or suspected RAS underwent aspirin renography (20 mg/kg orally 1 hour before injection of radiotracer) and captopril renography (50 mg orally) with 99mTc-DTPA. Renal an...

متن کاملInterpretation of captopril renography using artificial neural networks.
The purpose of this study was to develop a method based on artificial neural networks for interpretation of captopril renography tests for the detection of renovascular hypertension caused by renal artery stenosis and to assess the value of different measurements from the test. A total of 250 99mTc-MAG3 captopril renography tests were used in the study. The material was collected from two diffe...
متن کاملThe value of scintigraphy in diagnosis of renal disease
Renal imaging with radioisotopes, or renal scintigraphy, allows the quantitative evaluation of renal function and urodynamics. Measurement of renal function provides essential information in various situations of clinical practice. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor renography makes it possible to detect patients with renovascular hypertension. Diuresis renography aids in differentiating u...
متن کاملAtherosclerotic renal artery stenosis and renovascular hypertension: clinical diagnosis and indications for revascularization.
Atherosclerotic renal artery stenosis (RAS) is relatively common and often associated with reversible hypertension, progressive renal insufficiency, and/or coronary-independent pulmonary edema. Not all RAS is associated with renovascular hypertension. Historical and physical findings may suggest renovascular hypertension and warrant investigation for RAS. Noninvasive diagnostic imaging options ...
